Land Claims & Base Protection in 7 Days to Die – Explained

📅 Updated ⏱️ 2 min read✍️ NASTY Z team🎮 7 Days to Die V3.3

On a multiplayer server your base needs protection – not just from zombies, but from other players. The land claim block (LCB) is how 7 Days to Die does that. Here's exactly what it protects, what it doesn't, and how to place it right.

What a land claim block does

A land claim block marks an area around it as yours. Inside that area:

  • Other players can't break or place blocks (or it takes far longer, depending on server settings).
  • Your doors, boxes and workstations are safe from people outside your group.
  • Zombies are not stopped. A land claim does not protect against the horde – you still need walls.

You can add friends to your claim through the game's friend and party system, so your group can build together.

Claim size

The protected area is a square centered on the block. The default is fairly small; most servers raise it so a full base fits. Everything outside the square is unprotected – plan your base around the claim, not the other way around.

Online and offline protection

Servers can set how much harder blocks are to break inside a claim while you are online and while you are offline, and how long after you log out the offline protection starts. On PvE servers protection is usually very high.

Claim expiry

If you don't log in for a while, your claim expires and the area is no longer protected. The number of days is a server setting – log in regularly or ask a friend in your group to keep the base active.

Where not to build

  • Next to traders. Most servers forbid building near trader compounds, and the game blocks claims too close to them.
  • Inside POIs you don't own – they reset with quests and wipes.
  • On roads and bridges other players use.

Tips for a protected base

  1. Place the LCB first, then build inside its range.
  2. Put the block somewhere hidden and central, not on the outside wall.
  3. Keep storage and workstations well inside the claim, away from the edge.
  4. Use a separate, unclaimed or cheaply built horde base for blood moons – see how to build a horde base.

Frequently asked questions

Does a land claim block protect against zombies?

No. A land claim protects your blocks from other players. Zombies and the blood moon horde can still destroy them.

How big is a land claim?

It is a square around the block whose size is set by the server. On NASTY Z it is 41×41 blocks.

What happens if I stop playing?

After the server's expiry time without logging in, the claim stops protecting your base.
