Biomes & Biome Hazards in 7 Days to Die – Complete Guide
The world of 7 Days to Die is split into five biomes, and each one is harder – and more rewarding – than the last. With biome progression, the harder biomes also come with hazards and storms that slowly suffocate, freeze or irradiate you unless you are prepared. Here's what to expect in each biome and how to protect yourself.
The five biomes at a glance
| Biome | Hazard | Storm | Protection gear | Consumable |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pine Forest | none | Thunderstorm (harmless) | – | – |
| Burnt Forest | Smoke | Ember Storm | Smoke Gear | Black Lung Serum |
| Desert | Blowing sand | Sand Storm | Desert Gear | Sunstroke Tonic |
| Snow | Freezing air | Snow Storm | Snow Gear | Scorcher Stew |
| Wasteland | Fallout / radiation | Radiation Storm | Radiation Gear | Fallout Flush |
How biome hazards work
When biome progression is on, entering a harder biome starts a hazard timer – a few minutes before the environment starts hurting you. The matching consumable extends that timer, and the matching protection gear lets you stay much longer. Storms make the hazard much worse while they last, so check the sky before a long trip.
Pine Forest – where everyone starts
Calm, green and full of animals and resources. The best place for your first base: easy to defend, lots of wood and stone, and no hazard. Thunderstorms here are only cosmetic.
Burnt Forest
Ash, dead trees and smoke. Visibility is low and the smoke builds up over time. The loot is a step better than the forest, and the biome is a good second stop once you have decent armor and a reliable weapon.
Desert
Open, flat and dry. Sand gets in your lungs and sandstorms cut your vision. Deserts often hold big oil and industrial areas – great for loot, but you can see danger coming from far away and so can it.
Snow
Cold, mountainous and full of strong animals like bears and wolves. Freezing air drains you quickly without the right gear, and snowstorms are brutal. Warm food and Snow Gear are a must.
Wasteland
The hardest biome: radiated zombies, constant fallout and the best loot in the game. Don't go without full Radiation Gear, plenty of Fallout Flush and an exit plan. Many endgame players base on the edge of the wasteland for quick access.
When to move on
A simple rule: move to the next biome when the current one stops challenging you – when POIs at your tier feel easy and you have a weapon and armor you trust. Take your first trip during the day, with consumables for the hazard, and come back before night.
