Trader Quests in 7 Days to Die – Tiers, Rewards & Fast Progression
Trader quests are the fastest way to progress in 7 Days to Die. They give you XP, dukes and hand-picked rewards, and they open up harder quests with better loot. Here's how they work and how to make the most of them.
The traders
Traders live in fortified compounds in towns across the map. The classic five are Trader Rekt, Trader Jen, Trader Bob, Trader Hugh and Trader Joel – each with their own personality and stock. A trader compound is protected – its blocks can't be destroyed – but the trader closes at night and sends you out of the compound.
Quest types
- Fetch – find a supply crate in a POI and bring it back.
- Clear – kill every zombie in a POI.
- Fetch and clear – both at once.
- Buried supplies – dig up a stash in a marked area; zombies spawn around you.
- Restore power / infestation style quests – harder objectives with tougher enemies and better loot.
Starting a POI quest resets the POI, so it is full of sleepers and loot again – which also makes quests a great loot source.
Quest tiers
Quests come in tiers. Finish enough quests at your current tier and the trader offers you the next one. Higher tiers send you to bigger, harder POIs with more zombies, but pay more and offer better reward choices.
Picking rewards
At the end of a quest you choose from a small set of rewards. Early on, prioritise:
- A better weapon or tool than the one you have
- Ammo and medicine
- Dukes when nothing else is useful – the trader sells what you need later
Tips for faster progression
- Stack quests. Several quests to the same area can often be done in one trip.
- Don't skip tiers too early. A tier-5 POI with a bow and leather armor ends badly.
- Clear quests with friends. Quest progress and XP can be shared with your party.
- Sell your junk to the trader on every visit.
